Dalai Lama set to release debut album, ‘Inner World’

The Dalai Lama is transcribing his message of humanity, harmony, and peace to song. On the eve of his 85th birthday, his Holiness announces his debut album. The 11-track LP, titled Inner World, weaves mantras and teachings of the Tibetan spiritual leader with soft and natural tones for a cathartic and ultimately timeless musical experience.

The first available track from the album “Compassion,” is built around the Sanskrit mantra “Om mani padme hum,” with an ebbing and flowing ambient backdrop. Inner World is co-produced by Charles Goldstuck and Junelle Kunin, with artwork by Ella Brewer and Tiffany Singh. Earlier this year, in a Time Magazine op-ed the Dalai Lama highlighted the importance of compassion, particularly in fighting COVID-19, writing,

“We must also remember that nobody is free of suffering, and extend our hands to others who lack homes, resources or family to protect them. This crisis shows us that we are not separate from one another—even when we are living apart. Therefore, we all have a responsibility to exercise compassion and help.”

Proceeds from the forthcoming album will be donated to Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEE Learning), a program that specializes in providing teachers with the tools necessary to promote healthy development in students and adolescents. Inner World is due in full on July 6.
