Zedd‘s come quite a long way from his humble beginnings of dance music stardom. The producer has proven himself a favorite among the pop community, with a myriad of stars like Selena Gomez, Ke$ha, and various others approaching him for assistance in their next radio hits. The next up on this list is Katy Perry, and the two have whipped up a sentimental, earworm of an anthem in “Never Really Over.”
Perry’s full-bodied vocals sound good in the summery foundation Zedd has created, which unfolds at a pace friendly for singalongs. Though poignancy is present within the lyrics, as it deals with the topic of pining for lost love, Zedd does well in balancing it out with breezy instrumentation and big builds that feel built for blasting with the windows wide open. Expect to hear it in soundsystems all over the country as it moves up the charts.
