Neither of these open-format dons are strangers to house as they have supported it fervently over their seasoned careers. However, they have both of late been blessing Diplo’s label with house jams that are more stylish than energetic, invoking subtlety over flash.
Diplo recently released his Higher Ground EP on Mad Decent which was a diverse pallet of house music along with the EP’s remix package that further expanded that critique. Valentino Kahn’s latest release before “JustYourSoul” was “Pony,” a more raucous, bass-heavy house tune that also came out on Mad Decent.
Now this dynamic duo have combined forces for a serene, mature take on house that alludes to Diplo’s funkified project with Mark Ronson, Silk City. Relying on the mid-range to infuse listeners with the groove as opposed to throwing it in their face with the bassline, this track would be right at home in a set from Archie Hamilton, Denis Sulta, or a myriad of other house artists who are known for their jazzy renditions of all things four-on-the-floor.
