This four-part docu-series focuses on creative conversation and the emotional side of music-making, using legendary music producer Rick Rubin’s iconic Malibu, CA studio as the backdrop. Rubin’s mark on the music scene has been indelible since he co-founded Def Jam Records while enrolled at New York University in the ’80s, helping to launch the careers of Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys, and Run-DMC, among many others.
Hidden in Malibu, CA., across the street from Zuma Beach, Shangri-La is recognized as one of the most renowned recording studios in music history. This home/studio is a rare and unique property that hosts four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a detached guesthouse, family room, and formal game room, and an entire recording studio. It was used in the ’60s as not only a recording studio but as a mini paradise for artists like Eric Clapton, Robbie Robertson, Joe Cocker, Pete Townsend, The Stones and yes, even Bob Dylan himself. Most recently Adele and the Kings of Leon recorded their latest hit albums in the sanctuary that is Shangri La. This +/- 4449 square foot home has not been on the market in over 30 years and is what legends are made of.
Shangri-La will premiere on Friday, July 12th at 9 pm ET/PT. All four episodes will be available on-demand.
